Avoiding fear might feel safe… but it comes at a cost.

Welcome to the Light Side Kim,

Have you ever been afraid?

Maybe it was something simple—like the dark or a creepy crawling creature.
Or maybe something deeper… failure, your past, your future, or loss.

Fear is something I’ve wrestled with too.

For me, it often shows up as feeling not enough.
If I just get one more certification…
If I just work a little harder…
If I just do more…

Then maybe I’ll feel worthy.
Maybe life will go according to plan.

But when fear is driving, we tend to avoid what we don’t want to face.
And when that becomes a pattern, our body doesn’t see it as “just thoughts”—it experiences it as stress.

We’ve talked about this before—how chronic stress can disrupt hormones and throw our bodies out of balance.

It’s no wonder Scripture reminds us again and again not to fear.

Because fear doesn’t just stay in our minds…
It shapes how we live.

Fear, the Dark Side Is:

In Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda offers a powerful warning:

“Anger, fear, aggression—the dark side are they.”

Fear, when left unchecked, doesn’t stay contained.
It leads somewhere.

As he famously says:
“Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

And that suffering can show up in ways we don’t always connect right away:

  • Anxiety
  • Sleeplessness
  • Chronic inflammation
  • Physical pain

But one of the most subtle—and common—forms of fear is this:

The fear of loss.

Yoda speaks to it clearly:
“The fear of loss is a path to the dark side.”

Loss of identity.
Loss of comfort.
Loss of belonging.
Even fear of missing out.

So we stay where it’s familiar… even if it’s not serving us.

We ignore the nudges toward change—toward better health, deeper alignment, or a different way of living—because stepping outside of what’s known can feel risky.

Scripture echoes this in its own way, cautioning against living from fear, jealousy, or misplaced attachment.

Because when we live out of alignment with truth—
with how we were designed—

It creates tension within us.

And our bodies feel that tension.

Presence:

So how do we begin to shift?

Yoda gives us a subtle but powerful clue when describing Luke:

“All his life has he looked away… to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was… what he was doing.”

In other words:

He wasn’t present.

And presence might be one of the most practical ways to move through fear.

Not by avoiding it.
Not by overpowering it.

But by meeting the moment we’re actually in.

Presence allows us to:

  • Notice what we’re feeling without being controlled by it
  • Respond instead of react
  • Build resilience, one moment at a time

We can’t avoid every difficult situation.

But we can learn to walk through them—with steadiness instead of fear.

And on the other side?

There is often more peace… and more healing… than we expected.

UP NEXT:

“Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future…”

We’ll explore how perception shapes our decisions—and how to move forward with clarity.
